The Patrol / Investigations Division of the Preble County Sheriff's Office consists of Deputies and Detectives under the supervision of Captain Shane Hatfield. Patrol deputies are responsible for answering calls for service, traffic enforcement, criminal investigations, civil process and warrant service, and assisting in jail or dispatch operations when necessary. Detectives are responsible for criminal investigations including, but not limited to, felony crimes, such as homicides, drug investigations, sexual assaults and crimes against children.
Deputies are primarily responsible for law enforcement services in the unincorporated areas of the county, as well as several of the villages who either have no law enforcement of their own, or may only have part time officers.
The road patrol is supplemented by several part time deputies, and at times, by Special Deputies. You can learn more by visiting the Special Duties page.
